Rotating to different functions after joining HAECO as a Graduate Trainee 10 years ago, he immediately found his niche in the legal field, and made a strong case to the management to fund his studies to become a lawyer.“I wrote a proposal to the management, arguing how I would be able to generate cost savings and benefit the company by establishing an in-house legal department. Rekha Nair – From supplier negotiations to victory paddles

(Featured: Eric Cheng, Transit Duty in Charge, HAECO Hong Kong)Growing up near Hong Kong’s old Kai Tak Airport, Eric’s enchantment with airplanes not only instilled him with a sense of magical wonder, but also fueled his aviation career. In addition to being Lead Cabin Maintenance Mechanic of Line Maintenance who ensures that the checking of each flight is on track, Eric’s role in HAECO has taken on dazzling directions he couldn’t have foreseen. Eric first joined HAECO as a Graduate License Trainee in 2005, after receiving his degree in engineering and industrial management. His engineering expertise and demand for precision make him adept at his role, which has grown to encompass a wide range of functions. Apart from being responsible for transit operation duty control and serving as the customer liaison for on-request technical support, Eric drives technical operations and people development by championing safety and operational improvement initiatives and coordinating staff training. He even creates graphics and promotional videos to enhance internal communications. “I have been with HAECO for 18 years, and the diversity of my job still fires my passion and keeps me going,” says Eric, who welcomes the new exposure and skills gained from the dynamic functions that take him beyond aircraft maintenance. He gains a sense of achievement from well-executed teamwork and being part of a vibrant and energetic team, who constantly race against time to complete aircraft checks before passenger boarding.&nbsp; <img src="https://haeco.blob.core.windows.net/haeco/assets/Eric_Story_1_1de5d6fb42.png" alt="Eric-Story-1.png"> Outside of work, Eric has another favourite pastime – performing magic tricks. Catherine Chan - A Passionate Defender of Safety and Quality

Cai Qixiong - Intertwining passions for aviation and photography

As she progressed and completed her studies in economics, she discovered her passion for leadership and decision-making. With the support of a mentor in a trainee program, she gained experience in various roles, honing her leadership skills and learning the importance of enabling her team members to excel in their areas of expertise. Reflecting on her leadership philosophy, Sandra said: "It's not about being the expert; it's about empowering the experts in your department to shine." This mindset underscores her belief in the power of curiosity, asking questions, collaboration, and recognizing the unique strengths of individuals. Drawing from her knowledge and experience, Sandra embraced the Lean Six Sigma methodology, which emphasizes efficiency and waste reduction. By involving and engaging people in the pursuit of improvement, she has fostered a culture of collaboration and teamwork. Sandra Nieuwenhuijzen - A vision focusing on people, growth and collaboration

(Featured: Megan Johnson, Special Projects Manager, HAECO Composite Services)Moving to a new country can be a life-changing and exhilarating experience, allowing you to discover new horizons, experience different cultures, and create lasting memories. Megan Johnson, born and raised in the United States, studied Medical Anthropology of Global Health and South Asian Languages and Literature (Hindi &amp; Bengali). After working in positions dedicated to poverty alleviation for a few years, Megan made the decision to move to the Chinese Mainland to learn Chinese.Passionate about international aid in impoverished communities around the world, Megan never could have imagined that she would work in the aviation industry. However, she embraced her current role as the Special Projects Manager at HAECO Composite Services (HCJ) located in Jinjiang, China. "My very first impression of HCJ was that everyone was genuinely welcoming and friendly. I distinctly remember that every morning when I walked into the office, everyone would stop what they were doing to greet me. This experience was invaluable because it made me feel recognized, appreciated, and welcome," said Megan.<figure class="image"><img src="https://haeco.blob.core.windows.net/haeco/assets/HX_HKG_edited_a2f4b0abce.jpg" alt="HX HKG_edited.jpg"></figure>As the person responsible for various aspects of HCJ's operations, including business development, marketing and communications, and sustainable development, Megan cherishes the opportunity to grow and learn new things. "The beauty of joining an industry without any previous background knowledge is that, with work ethic and drive, you have endless opportunities to learn. However, above all, my favourite part has been the opportunity to develop lasting friendships with my local co-workers," Megan shared when asked about what she enjoys most about joining HAECO.One of the most remarkable experiences in Megan's HAECO journey was a sustainable development project she initiated. She came up with the idea of transforming old scrap aircraft part shipping crates into a planter box in the shape of HAECO. Employees' families were invited to plant moss in the handcrafted planter box and trees in the surrounding plot, providing them with a hands-on experience of resource recycling and teaching the next generation about environmental conservation.Additionally, Megan volunteered to teach bi-weekly interactive English lessons to low-income primary school students. At HAECO, we strive to make a positive impact on the lives of those around us by implementing sustainable practices and supporting local communities. Through our initiatives, we aim to create a better future for generations to come, fostering social and environmental responsibility.

Megan Johnson - Exploring new cultures and horizons

(Featured: Jordan Thomas, Graduate Trainee, HAECO Americas)Jordan Thomas, a Graduate Trainee at HAECO since 2022, is currently based in Greensboro and has always had a passion for aviation since he was young. He joined various aviation clubs throughout high school and attended aviation summer camps, where he had the opportunity to begin his flight training. "Since my first time travelling on a plane as a toddler, I have been obsessed with everything related to aviation and airplanes," he said. Jordan pursued a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering degree and later an MBA with a concentration in airline management to fulfill his dream of devoting himself to the aviation industry. During his engineering studies, he acquired multiple skills that contributed to his readiness as a Graduate Trainee.<figure class="image"><img src="https://haeco.blob.core.windows.net/haeco/assets/Jordan_Thomas_Cropped_f19ddd7ce4.jpg" alt="Jordan Thomas-Cropped.jpg"></figure>As a newcomer to the workplace, Jordan faced a challenge at HAECO. He realized that to become a good team player, he needed to become more familiar with the functions of the various departments and how they work together to make the overall company successful. He feels grateful that his co-workers and supervisors are always willing to answer his questions and allow him to explore and observe various processes and tasks that they work on, which has helped him have a steeper learning curve during his tenure as a Graduate Trainee at HAECO. After working at HAECO for a year, Jordan became a Graduate Development Associate in the Finance Department at HAECO Americas. His project involves evaluating the current structure and providing recommendations for ways to improve commercial practices for both the company and its customers. Jordan's inspirational thought can be reflected in his life motto: "Heights by great men reached and kept were not obtained by sudden flight but, while their companions slept, they were toiling upward in the night," by Ralph Waldo Emerson. As a young talent at HAECO, Jordan looks forward to overcoming the hurdles ahead, discharging his duties assiduously, and making a positive impact on the company.

Jordan Thomas - Aviation enthusiast from a young age

(Featured: Teresa Cheung, Head of Business Improvement, HAECO Hong Kong)From academia to airline, agriculture, and now MRO, HAECO Hong Kong Head of Business Improvement, Teresa Cheung, shares her diverse career journey with us.&nbsp;“I began my career in academia, working as a teaching assistant at The Chinese University of Hong Kong after graduating with a degree in Accounting and Financial Analysis. However, my passion for technology led me to transition to&nbsp;Cathay Pacific's IT team, where I spent 16 years honing my skills in safety, systems, and engines.<figure class="image image_resized" style="width:75.92%;"><img src="https://haeco.blob.core.windows.net/haeco/assets/Photo_3_0198647b04.png" alt="Photo_3.png"></figure>After leaving&nbsp;Cathay&nbsp;Pacific, I decided to pursue my love for nature and opened a&nbsp;natural healing studio&nbsp;and organic farm in Kam Tin. The studio provided a spacious and relaxing area for people to make organic food and products such as bread and cosmetics, while the farm allowed me to indulge my passion for growing organic food.Joining&nbsp;HAECO&nbsp;as a&nbsp;Group IT Manager&nbsp;gave me the opportunity to lead a project team of 13 people in developing an end-to-end IT solution, AMOS. The project, which lasted 30 months from sourcing the vendor through to implementation, was a resounding success due to the high morale of the team. As the linchpin of the project, I take great pride in this achievement.At HAECO, our core values include developing responsible individuals who are willing to go the extra mile to help their colleagues and work tirelessly to meet tight deadlines. My&nbsp;personal principles&nbsp;align with these values, and I believe that there are no excuses for not trying, no matter how many people try to hold you back. Teresa Cheung - A diverse career makes anything possible

(Featured: Jacqueline Jiang, Group Director Airframe Services, HAECO)When we asked Group Director Airframe Services Jacqueline Jiang which word comes to mind when she thinks of HAECO, she came up with three words.&nbsp;“I love HAECO,” she gushed.&nbsp;Jacqueline’s career in HAECO has spanned over twenty years. While the first 23 years of her career development with the company was spent with the Commercial team in HAECO Xiamen, it was time well spent because it has led to her current position of overseeing HAECO’s airframe business globally. Prior to her current role, Jacqueline was responsible for HAECO’s Xiamen’s daily operations.&nbsp;“I am very grateful for the opportunities HAECO has given me over the years and most importantly, the vote of confidence from the senior management and the people I work with,” said Jacqueline.&nbsp;Spurred by her love for the English language and a strong desire to have a global mindset, high school Jacqueline dreamt of joining United Nations as a translator. She eventually joined an international trade firm after graduation but was not fulfilled because of her aspiration to get greater global exposure. All that changed when a job opportunity at Taikoo (Xiamen) Aircraft Engineering Company, now known as HAECO Xiamen came up.&nbsp;“It was overwhelming at first, joining an aircraft engineering company with no technical background but I have learnt that it’s ok to ask questions. HAECO employees are so willing to share their knowledge and expertise. Whether they are frontline staff or back-office colleagues, we are always aligned in our objectives and work together as a team to achieve results,” said Jacqueline.&nbsp;The people who have crossed paths with Jacqueline in her early days with the company have continued to support throughout her career. It is no wonder that Jacqueline is fiercely protective of HAECO employees.&nbsp;“Without our people, there would be no HAECO,” she emphasised. “When COVID hit the Chinese Mainland, we were determined not to lay off employees because their families also depended on us for survival. Thanks to everyone’s support, we were able to achieve cost-savings through other initiatives,” Jacqueline added.&nbsp;Work has certainly been hectic over the last few years because of heavier responsibilities but Jacqueline is undeterred by the associated challenges and pressure.&nbsp;“My current role as a member of the Group Leadership Team is very strategic so I need to adapt culturally when I address different entities. It’s paramount to have a clear grasp of the issues on hand, communicate effectively and work together as a team to overcome them,” said Jacqueline.&nbsp;Despite her hectic schedule, Jacqueline ensures she makes time to wind down and reflect.“It’s important to slow down because we also play other roles outside of work. When I self-reflect, I always think about where I am, what I do and how I can be better. Jacqueline Jiang - A global perspective starting from the team 

(Featured: Devanshee Mishra, Graduate Trainee, HAECO Hong Kong)I came to Hong Kong for my undergraduate studies in 2018, majoring in Electronics and Information Engineering. After graduation I was looking for a role that would allow me to explore my interest in aviation while still using elements of my education. HAECO's Graduate Trainee (GT) Programme was the perfect way to kickstart my career due to the way it is structured, the numerous avenues to learn and grow, and the chance to look up to the industry's best as mentors.My first impression of HAECO was its nurturing culture. A "can do" spirit is so evident among everyone in the company and it shines through to any new joiner. I want to take the opportunity to learn and grow with HAECO to a position of strategic leadership. Devanshee Mishra - Finding a nurturing place to learn and grow

It was during this time that I gained the technical skills that inspired me to obtain a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) mechanic’s certificate after completing military service.I joined HAECO Americas in 1994 and have been here for almost three decades. I believe this company has changed the way many MRO operations in the US focus on safety today. The organisational drive to make HAECO a safer workplace for our employees has been a welcome change. David Latimer - From aircraft mechanic to safety champion

(Featured: Xenia Huang, Graduate Trainee, HAECO Xiamen)I used to be an investment specialist in the real estate business, but I decided to challenge myself and join the aviation industry. I’d already been deeply impressed by HAECO’s rich history and leading position in the maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) industry and now I’m enjoying every moment of being one of the HAECO Group’s latest batch of Graduate Trainees.I’m currently based in HAECO Xiamen as part of a three-year training period during which I will rotate across departments and learn on the job.
